IB Diploma Programme

Primary

Our Primary School programme offers a bilingual academic curriculum designed to build strong foundations for a lifelong journey of learning. Through projects developed in both languages, we foster reasoning, research, analysis, communication, and collaborative skills.

Projects integrate different areas such as Art, Computer Science, Music, and Orchard, providing each student with different ways to explore and build their learning. Alongside academic excellence, we seek to discover and nurture the best in every child, fostering their creativity, independence, curiosity, self-confidence and development of values.

With an average of 24 students per class, we provide close and personalized support. Our Psychopedagogical Department works closely with students, teachers and families, providing guidance throughout the different stages of each student’s development and learning.

Psychopedagogical Department

Educational institutions are spaces where we develop cognitive, emotional and social skills that foster personal growth. At Woodside School, we believe that the individual must always be the ultimate goal of this process.

With this mission in mind as an educational community, our Psychopedagogical Department has set the following objectives and initiatives to be carried out:

  • To support the educational institution in fulfilling its mission to educate and foster personal development.
  • To promote mental health and support human development within the educational context.
  • To provide guidance to promote the emotional, cognitive and social development of our students, while identifying potential challenges that may arise.
  • To contribute to creating the conditions needed to foster inclusive education. The purpose of inclusive education is to ensure that teachers and students feel comfortable with diversity and embrace it as both a challenge and an opportunity to enrich the ways in which we teach and learn (UNESCO, 2005; in Echeita & Ainscow, 2010).
  • To foster a positive relationship between families and the school.
  • To support students throughout the transition between school stages.
  • To design and develop Emotional Education initiatives.
  • To help children and teenagers develop conflict-resolution strategies.
  • To work collaboratively with teachers to provide guidance for students and offer individual and group support.
  • To hold regular exchange meetings with teachers.
  • To meet with new students and their families in order to develop strategies to support their adaptation.
  • To hold orientation meetings with parents
  • To observe and identify individual or group situations that may require intervention.
  • To put into practice educational strategies and measures, such as curricular adaptations, providing meaningful learning opportunities for all students.
  • To promote health and wellbeing through preventive initiatives and workshops with students across different year groups.
  • To offer students activities that foster awareness and empathy towards people with different abilities and needs
  • To conduct initial assessments when psychological and/or psychopedagogical difficulties are identified and refer students to external specialists.
  • To meet with external specialists and parents to coordinate strategies and provide effective support for any challenges that may arise throughout the teaching and learning process.

Sports

Physical activity and sports are fundamental pillars of our educational approach. One of our main goals is therefore to encourage healthy habits among our students through sports, healthy eating, mindful breathing and regular physical activity as an integral part of everyday life.

In this way, from preschool through secondary school, we offer a wide range of activities both during and outside school hours.

From Toddlers throughout preschool, students take part in physical education, psychomotor development and matroswimming classes, with a focus on developing motor skills both on land and in the water. Their first experiences in water take place through activities that allow them to learn to float and move in the water with the support of their parents. The main goal is for children to develop independence in the water so that when they reach Kinder 2 they can join swimming classes where they participate exclusively with their teachers. Between the ages of 3 and 5, the focus is on developing independence, safety and confidence in the water so that children can move freely.

Physical Education and psychomotor development classes begin in Toddlers and support children throughout preschool, fostering their growth and development.
In Primary School, Physical Education classes continue at all levels and sports are introduced. Sports not only contribute to physical and mental development but also promote interaction with others through play and recreation, fostering values and supporting children’s development as well-rounded individuals.

In Form 1, as part of the curriculum, students attend weekly Physical Education, football, pre-sports games, rugby, hockey and wellbeing classes. As part of the extracurricular activities, they can also take part in the multisports training sessions.

In Form 4, handball and athletics are added to the curriculum. As part of the extracurricular activities, students can also join the handball, football, hockey and rugby training sessions.

During this first school stage, we aim to offer a wide variety of activities and sports so that every child can experience and enjoy them beyond competition. These activities promote healthy habits, teamwork, a desire to improve and commitment.

Regarding sports competition at Primary School, our focus is on encouraging everyone to participate, regardless of the results. For this reason, from Form 1, students begin to take part in their first sports events with schools in the local area, with the aim of promoting healthy competition and recreation through inclusion and participation.

During the second stage of schooling, additional sports sessions are introduced outside school hours for students who choose to practice their preferred sport one more time during the week.
At this stage, competition becomes more important, with students taking part in interdepartmental competitions as well as local tournaments and events.

From Senior 1 to Senior 4, the curricular sports programme includes Physical Education, hockey, handball, rugby and football. As an optional activity, students can also take part in handball, football, hockey and rugby training sessions.

In Senior 5 & 6, optional activities include Physical / Sports Training, as well as football and hockey training sessions.

Regarding sports competitions in Secondary School, we continue to participate in local and interdepartmental events and tournaments while also introducing international trips. These include exchanges with other schools, which provide valuable opportunities for social and cultural interaction. Students also take part in tournaments where the focus is on achieving sporting goals while strengthening relationships within the team and with their teachers.
